A tutor focuses on addressing educational gaps: most commonly going over maths and literacy material to resolve some of the learning that others in your child’s class have grasped but they have not yet understood. The sooner these gaps are filled, the quicker your child will be able to engage in the learning that is building on the material they have not yet mastered.
A coach seeks to address some of the social, emotional, confidence and self-esteem issues that may be preventing your child from fully engaging in learning. Whilst these issues continue, your child is likely to find it difficult to focus or engage with learning. Even beginning the simplest task, or giving what they know to be the right answer, requires confidence.
As an experienced educator and qualified life coach I strongly believe that a child who is struggling benefits from a combination of coaching and tutoring. A child with increased self-belief is better able to apply themselves to overcoming current, and future, educational challenges than one who has only addressed learning gaps. I will help your child understand learning, not just the lesson.
